At
we believe that the most important part when discussing lenses is the lens
material. Although we may call them eyeglasses or glasses we rarely
use glass anymore. Today it is common that lenses are made mostly of
plastic, however there are many types of "plastic lenses" and we want to
give you an idea of what some options are.
- CR39 plastic is excellent optical quality, however it is thick and
heavy depending on the prescription that is ground into it.
(However it is lighter than the traditional glass lens)
- Polycarbonate is a shatter-proof plastic material. It is
mandatory for children twelve and under. Polycarbonate is thinner
and lighter than CR39 plastic. The material itself blocks
ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths, inherently. However, the optical
quality is not a good as that of CR39 plastic.
- High Index lenses: These lenses are excellent optical quality
and thinner and lighter than plastic. there are more than one type
of high index lens. The higher the index the thinner the lens, and
typically the more expensive the lens as well.
We also offer many lens options as well, please review them as well.
